Though the modern, extremely high-quality
Mont Tauch is a 21st century role-model for a
cooperative wine cellar, its roots in the picturesque hills of the Languedoc date back almost 100 years. Mont Tauch belongs to its 300 members, who's vines are 40-50 years old on average, and are planted in small
patches around four villages on rocky, limestone soils.
Today Mont Tauch bristles with the latest technology, and its modern yet authentic wines have been awarded both
"Wine of the Week" and "Wine of the Month" on wine-pages. A brand new visitor centre will open soon, that is a
showpiece for the whole of the South of France.
Yet there is a real dedication to tradition and a respect for their roots amongst the present-day custodians. That already exists in
wines like "Les Douze", a terrific Fitou made from the fruit of twelve growers, selected purely on quality each year.
There is obvious pride in the faces of the growers, each of whom gets their photograph on the label of the bottle. |
