12/01/03 – Omrah (Australia) Shiraz 2000

Omrah (Australia) Shiraz 2000
Here’s a no-nonsense, fruity, burst of Aussie sunshine in a bottle; the sort of wine with which Australia made its name in the UK, delivering copious fruit with low acidity for a soft and voluptuous mouthful of red wine. Omrah is the second label of Plantagenet wines from Western Australia. The Omrah range is designed to be approachable and easy drinking, and this shiraz lives up to that, with the added bonus of some complexity. The nose is mellow and creamy, with vanillin aromas intermingled with crushed red berries and a little white pepper. On the palate it is medium-bodied and quite silky, with a subtle coffee background to red fruits and a hint of briary, polished wood and peppery spice. There’s a little rasping hit of tannin, and then more of that mellow, dark spice and oak which warms the finish. Very well put together.
