Mas des Dames (France) Rouge 2004
Mas des Dames is a 17th century farmstead located close to Beziers, with small vineyard plots scattered on surrounding hillsides. Traditional varieties like Grenache, Mourvedre and Syrah are farmed at low yields. Unoaked, this wine is all about expressing the fruit of the Mediterranean south, with lots of juicy black cherry and a tight, kirsch-like quality. The palate has a flood of sweet, vibrant fruit, but a firm liquoricy edge adds structure into a fleshy, ripe and bittersweet finish. Elegant yet full of charm and richness. £7.95 Berry Bros & Rudd, or 7.15 when bought by the case.
