(2021) Left to hang on the vine late into the autumn when Botytis developed on the bunches, this is a dessert wine in the style of one of Germany's Trockenbeerenausle wines, sold in half bottles and lusciously sweet with around 200g/l of residual sugar. A burnished gold in colour, it opens laden with honey and barley sugar, but beneath there is a zest of Seville orange mamalade, the glycerine and lemon richness surging onto the palate. The unctuous richness of texture and fabulously exotic ripe mango and papaya needs to be balanced, and the wine does it beautifully, crystalline lemon zestiness pushing through. Fabulous. Watch the video for more information.
(2020) With 287g/l of residual sugar this has an opulent toffee, honeycomb and apricot aroma with loads of glycerine. The palate is beautifully honed, a little bit of toast, fabulous opulence in the mouth and fat, with pink grapefruit and orange and lime zestiness. Terrific acid balance and a fabulous sweet and ripe tropical fruit. Price for a half bottle, and stockist quoted at time of review is for the previous vintage.
(2020) With 160g/l of residual sugar, Jules tells me there was a lot of Botrytised fruit in the blend. Nice nose, a touch of Sauvignon Blanc character, herbal, a bit of pungency, then the honey and glycerine, the cold tea aromas, and on the palate full nectarine and orange acidity, tangerine and a delicious touch of creamy vanilla fleshing out the finish. No UK stockists at time of review.
(2015) What a terrfic wine this is, the nose so utterly Riesling with paraffin and beeswax notes, loads of lime and a fine suggestion of ripe and exotic fruit too. There's some honeycomb and orange on the palate, the sweetness is delightful and mouthfilling, and again 10% alcohol and a rapier zip of lime acidity means it finishes as clean as a whistle. Terrific. Price is for a half bottle.
(2011) Made from fruit Kevin discovered hanging late in a vineyard he was driving past, this is only 12.5% ABV, and has 90g/l of residual sugar. Great smoky bacon glimpse on this, some lychee and grapefruity freshness too, but this is about spice and luscious apricot on the palate, a lovely mouth-feel and really fresh and orangy.
