(2023) This is a Cabernet Franc from the limestone slopes of Saumur in the central Loire that slips down very easily. There's glossy black cherry and blackcurrant pastille ripeness, but a hint of the savoury side of Cab Franc that adds a peppery, tapenade touch. It has a smoothly juicy, succulent black fruit palate, and while the acid is brisk and the tannins chalky but firm, the overall picture is really nicely balanced and the wine is so approachable. It should have broad appeal. Watch the video for more information.
(2022) The chamelon Cabernet Franc can reach high alcohols, but here a very modest 12.5% does for a certified organic Anjou wine made in concrete tanks. It is pretty, brightly red-fruitd and has a certain floral and green herb lift. In the mouth it is lightweight and elegant, with nicely ripe fruit, no great length, but good balance as some spices join the modest tannins and pert cherry acid of the finish. Useful summer drinking, maybe lightly chilled.
(2017) Cabernet Franc from clay-sandy soils in the Loire Valley, and a sixth generation wine estate. Nicely translucent, deep cherry colour and a fruit-filled nose, brimming with raspberry and plum, a lovely hint of black leaf tea and gentle herbaceous character that is very appealing. In the mouth that refined, dry black fruit and herbal edge continues to delight, a dustiness to the tannins and juicy acids making this very easy to drink indeed.
