(2024) Gently pressed at low pressure, this was fermented in stainless steel and aged on the lees for six months. I believe there are small amounts of both CaÃño and Loureira in the blend. A lightly honeyed, lightly tropical aroma, overlaid with fragrant jasmine and a little almondy softness. In the mouth this has plenty of fruit-driven personality, with quite a firm peach and herb combination and plenty of zippy citrus. A little less sea breezy than the Salnes wines perhaps, but still fresh as a daisy.
(2023) From old vines planted in the highest part of the estate, yields here are very low. A full 24 months on lees is evident on the nose, where salts and lemons carry a certain fat and suggestion of skinny grip. The palate has great saline richness and full flavour, a nut husk and salty dryness but not with juiciness and mouth-watering freshness. Gastronomic, serious and lovely.
(2023) From the superb Rioja house of Rioja Alta, an Albariño from their own vineyards in the O Rosal sub-zone, with around 20% from Salnes. It is a careful selection of the best fruit that is real punch and vibrancy, the nose exotic with floral, mango and lychee notes in a very perfumed style showing nectarine fruit too. In the mouth it has texture and that combination of quite luscious fruit verging on the tropical, with swaggering acidity to keep the whole picture balance with a salty hint of freshness in the finish.
