(2020) A touch of Chardonnay is blended with the typical grapes of Cava in this wine (Macabeo, Xarel.lo and Parellada), part of Lidl's 'Wine Tour', May 2020. Made by the traditional method, the nose is very inviting with its custardy, creamy and waxy sense of richness, a little biscuit character too. In the mouth the mousse is generous and pillowing, with a crisp lemony fruit, that citrussy freshness clean into the relatively long finish. Really very good value.
(2014) A terrific price currently on a really good Cava from M&S, made from the traditional grapes of Macabeo, Xarel.lo and Parellada, from vines that are 25 years old on average. With a low 7.5g/l dosage it is herbaceous, pungent stuff with plenty of verve and character, and an abundant, mouth-filling mousse and texture. Creamy and full in the mouth it is packed with flavour, creamy richness but dry and long in the finish.
(2011) 11.5% abv. Lots of small bubbles and a refined aroma of apples, a touch of custard and some herby notes too. On the palate this has a fair bit of sweetness; it seems sweeter than Brut, but then that gives it a very easy-drinking softness and this stylish wine has length and a lovely, pin-sharp acidity in the finish. This offers very good value.
