I love it, even more so if accidental, although I obtained copies of The Nibelunglied, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Beowulf, The Fall of Arthur, and The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrun, partly because of their intentional usage of alliterative verse.

The fact that the uk blackbird is often to be heard singing the first couple of bars of ‘I’m a Barbie girl’ by aqua. Always makes me smile.

When our children were small they kept guinea pigs, which in suitable weather used to live in a hutch on the lawn. Anyone who's familiar with guinea pigs will know that they have a distinctive squeak. Some of the blackbirds in the area picked up on this and started to sing like guinea-pig-squeaks. I swear that they didn't do so before. Once they'd learned it they continued with it even in the years after the guinea pigs had disappeared from the lawn. By moving the hutch each day we rarely had to mow the lawn

I spent a full five minutes this morning observing a honey bee cleaning itself after an encounter with a spider's web inside our kitchen skylight. The flexibility and dexterity of its limbs in cleaning its back and wings and the rotational travel of its head were a marvel to behold.

We've lived in our house for over 20 years. For the first 12-15 of those I could sit in our back garden in the evening and watch bats feeding. They then stopped coming. Last night I was out looking for StarLink satellites and Lyric meteors and spent five minutes watching two bats feeding again. Made me so happy.

We didn’t get to try them. My understanding was that they self-immolated the moment they crossed the border.
Rosehill pies in my school canteen in the then “beyond the end of the world” suburb of Baulkham Hills. Price - 5 cents each. Probably not worth it.
