Forum in mid-upgrade

My bug is exactly what Paul Anderson reported 3 posts above

I've done CTL + F5 and I've logged out and logged in again

I'm using Edge on Windows 11

The bar is still going left to right at the top pf the screen

Ian,

Cookies are allowed or disallowed by you using controls in your browser. If you let me know which machine you use (windows/mac. etc) and what browser I will see if I can help.

Jeremey - not sure what you mean? If you hover over the word "like" then a choice of emojis should appear and stay there until you move off of the word?
I had the choice of emojis behind the Like button yesterday, but they weren't appearing when I read that. But on checking, Firefox was ready to upgrade itself, and letting it do so, re-enabled the like emojis.

I've seen this on Chrome on other websites, including Youtube, that things stop working when a browser update is waiting to be installed.

Tom - I am using Chrome and win10 on a desk top. I have set "All cookies allowed" in settings and still this annoying little problem exists !

Just noticed that the "thumbs up" emoji I copied and pasted disappeared when I posted the reply. :(

No need to copy and paste. Within a post just click the smiley face on the bar of symbols above - - click on the smiley you want - - which inserts it, and carry on typing. o_O

Hi Ian. If cookies are allowed from all sites, I wonder if it is worth going into your Chrome Settings once more and "Clear browsing data", check only the cookies box, and clear cookies set in the last hour. Log out of the forum (click your name top right, then logout) and then log in one more time. Maybe a fresh cookie will be set that wasn't set before?

At the moment I am going back to the developer only when there is a general problem or issue that everyone experiences. It doesn't make sense to go back to him when one individual is having a problem and others aren't, especially as the forum is just bedding in, as it is almost certainly a local issue. But that's not to say i am ignoring this or other issues an idividual reports.

Yeah, I've done that but there isn't a thumbs up (there is on the like emojis) so I copied from another website. It pasted OK into the message but was dropped when I posted my reply.

Paul, I'll have to look into whether you are allowed to drop images in from cut and paste. Just going to try one now:

Paul, I think I have got to the bottom of this: I think the emoji that you copied from another forum was a 'sprite' not a full image as such. Try copying it again (or use this one :( ) and pasting it into a new post and you will see that the forum sees it as a 1 pixel x 1 pixel and is blank. You can also copy it and paste it into Word or an email and it will not show up there either.

One of the forum's techies might understand this (which i don't really) but basically I think you just picked the wrong image to copy and paste, which would not have worked on the old forum either.

It seems to have pasted into Word okay (apologies for the rubbish photograph).

Listen, whatever the feeling is towards the upgrade, please remember that, like wine, it is what is in the bottle that matters, not the label. As ar as I'm concerned, whatever my aesthetic preferences are this forum is better than any other, whether we're talking about forum members, content, politeness, and all around general knowledge. Who cares about the label, the wine is delicious and it gets better with age.

Edit: Did I forget to mention that we also have a pretty decent and tolerant moderator (I have to be careful because I don't want someone named Tom to think I'm sucking up).

You just couldn't draw an emoji for that!!

Tom - Good Morning. Problem all sorted now thank you.

The emoji options for the original 'like' don't work in Firefox, it seems? Or just my Firebox needs update? It's OK in Chorme.

Po-yu, works for my Firefox OK - just hover over 'like' and they pop up - unless maybe you have pop-ups disabled? (Not sure if technically they it counts as a pop-up). I'm on Firefox version 85.0.1 on Windows 10.
