Food Restaurant 'dine at home' boxes

We *really* liked the QCH box:
- all of the starter elements were exemplary, with the exception of the bread, which was just OK. The olives, cod's roe, terrine, chutney and parfait were all superb, and very generously portioned; the second half of the terrine made a lovely lunch today with some other (better) bread and a green salad
- the beef rib was excellent quality, although with hindsight it would have been even better under the grill for a few minutes after it came out of the water bath
- celeriac puree had wonderful flavor and consistency
- confit potatoes with Dijon mayo obviously great (there were three cuboids of potato each, again on the generous side)
- charred romanesco with pepper butter was exactly the sort of veg dish I like!

We were then unable to finish or continue (rare for us) so gave up on pudding, having saved some of the meat for a pasta sauce tomorrow. The fudge petit fours were absolutely delicious though.

We had the rhubarb crumble tonight. I don't like rhubarb and Mrs A doesn't like crumble, but we both thought this was excellent. Best rhubarb thing I've eaten (probably because it was very sweet).

Just listening to a youtube/zoom discussion facilitated by Harpers/SITT tastings, and Adam Handling credits home delivery box for saving his business, and, despite ridicule early on, he's now taking £500k a month on home delivery. Thought it was interesting to see a figure put on the value of this and to hear it confirmed that it's a serious business, not a sideline to keep themselves amused.

We have the Antonia at home Beef Wellington meal coming on Saturday.
I am nearly as excited though about a local offering from a chap who delivers to a few postcodes surrounding his home.
I think he is able to do around 20-30 meals and including the “extras” a Sri Lankan style Chicken, fish or veg curry for two is £31.50 delivered.
We have enjoyed a couple of his previous offerings, a step up from a takeaway and less faff than the upper market boxes.

Similarly, The Newport which is a terrific restaurant near us (Masterchef the Professionals winner Jamie Scott) opened a bakery near the restaurant just before the first lockdown and between it, and his local 'at home' boxes for collection, he has expanded to a new industrial bakery and prep unit and says he has re-employed all furloughed staff such is the success.

At the more modest end of the spectrum, recently gone for tonkotsu ramen courtesy of Shoryu via the Japan Centre. Excluding delivery, ends up at a tenner of bowl with all ingredients and fairly simple instructions, pretty tasty option with decent broth if you don't have a ramen place on your doorstep.

Our Bocca di Lupo box arrived this morning, too. More wool packaging!
We'll probably save the duck pasta til Sunday and have the three courses tomorrow.

Latest HAAR at home box arrived today

mediocre mango slaw
1 small lobster cut in 2, slightly tough when warmed through as per instructions
