NWR Lawn mower recommendation sought

One for the hive mind - I'm looking for an electric cordless mower suitable for a large garden of about 2000sqm (so probably a 42cm+ width cutter) that can do stripes (I think that means a rear roller?). Any suggestions?

Yeah can’t imagine electric can do what you want. My understanding is stripes and electric are basically a no because of the oomph required for the roller.

The traditional choice for this would be a Hayter, or an Atco cylinder if you really care about cut quality.

Alex, you're having a poor run with the search function old bean... ;)

I bought a Bosch battery rotary and it's good for my lawn and leaves decent stripes

Same here

Hondas are amazing, although heavy obviously as any petrol mowers are. Also I don't agree about a lot of work. It needs a little bit of work and observation to understand why a lawn behaves how it does (soil, exposure to the sun, trees, animals, incumbent grass at a push etc. blah blah), and a little bit of research and work to know what to do in response. But really, it is very easy, and I should know because my lawn has some of the worst natural elements to contend with one could imagine.

No way!!! The thought didn't even occur that someone might have beaten me too it... Chapeau Neil!

Great responses, guys. I'm liking the idea of a robot...

But also I think the importance of lawn feed and selective weedkiller is important. Maybe while the robot is cutting the crass, I can feed the lawn.

Getting a man in is bloody expensive. About £70 a pop. We do currently have one, but he's not that regular. I've been toying with the idea of taking over - maybe even taking turns.

Just been reading this 15 Things I Wish I Knew Before I Bought A Robot Lawn Mower - My Robot Mower
The mulching thing could be a game-changer. The biggest problem we have is taking clippings away. Not sure how it's possible for the grass trimmings to be reabsorbed into the ground without creating a layer of crud that would stick to your shoes. Maybe the robot owners here could comment?

Love the name "Landroid!"

After 20 years of petrol, last year I bought a 42cm Bosch cordless. It has a rear roller and depending on how long/how wet the grass is handles our 2000 sqm with ease. It's light and there is no annual servicing cost. I would not hesitate to recommend it.

We use a Stiga Park ride on. It mulches, the solution to the clippings is little and often which is not a problem with a good ride on. We have a little petrol rotary for the corners.
We also have a ride on triple cylinder but have not been able to find any one to maintain it for years and those things need a lot of maintenance.
