Travel European Travel and Holidays 2021/22

The Spanish government's own entry requirements website states that:

Being in possession of a valid passport or travel document

The document must be valid for al least three months following the projected exit from the territory of the Members States, and must have been issued within the last ten years. Citizens from any State of the European Union, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein only need a valid national identity document or passport. Citizens of Ireland will need a passport as the country is not a member of the Schengen Area. In the event of a minor travelling with a national identity document, the latter must be accompanied by parental authorization.

His is only a 5 year passport so that might help also based on 5 years from issue the "expiry" would be 03/02/2022 and we're scheduled to fly home on 31/10/21 which gives all of Nov, Dec and Jan clear... Surely OK?

Anyone ordered a day 2 test in the last week or two? I'm still unclear as to whether LFTs are acceptable yet and if not, when they might be (I'm returning on the 30th).

I don't know Alex - my wife is using the French app which seems to work universally (and she was vaccinated in the USA), and I'm showing a PDF of my vaccination certificate from which they scan the QR code. Both have worked flawlessly. I expect a manual version would work as long as the QR code remains readable (careful folding and moisture management required). Surely Lauren could download/send a PDF to her phone as I did - I just keep it in Notes. Even if it was an attachment in an e-mail it could be opened and scanned.
Which app is that? There seem to be so many "fake" ones these days!

Yes - I have, for a trip I came back from. Haven't yet ordered for the next trip, but probably will. I think HMG are only relaxing the rules for half term. No idea why, though, other than politics. Think it as £43 from Randox.

Yep Phil - Randox again. I’m travelling back before 30th.
Other comments possibly relevant:
1) Eurotunnel yday no interest in any documents. Obviously had to upload vaccine proof beforehand.

2) COVID pass then copied into French anti COVID app, scrupulously examined before entry to restaurant granted.

3) huge number of policemen lining up to arrest me for having a car with GB number plate and no “U.K.” sticker.

Yes 3 months clear from issue plus 5 or 10 for an adult and under 5 years upon return.
just checking that site they have added a big red banner saying they advise getting a new passport with any date within 6 months. It’s not entirely clear still.
Keep refreshing that fast track site for next few days and see if a slot comes up as may be safer.

When it comes to covid passes for restaurants etc, how are children dealt with? Is it assumed that they don’t need one/have one? We have one below age 12, and one of 12 or older, neither of whom have been vaccinated. I was going to see whether the NHS app would work for them based on age and no positive test, but wondered if something else is required in France? The eldest needs to have a negative test within 24hrs of departing UK for entry to France, but beyond that it’s not particularly clear to me…

The under 12s are certainly ok. We used our sans Covid app in France, our 8yos weren’t asked in restaurants.

Simon,

Depuis le 30 septembre 2021, le « pass sanitaire » est obligatoire pour les mineurs âgés de 12 ans et deux mois à 17 ans.

In the approx 60 times we have eaten out, visited a museum/cinema etc, we have been checked 58, and one of the times we weren’t was perhaps because we know the owner well. Though they are less interested in checking the children, our middle one is 13 and 6ft.

Thanks Russell, looks as if it’s PCR or Antigen tests every two or three days then for our eldest. I assume most pharmacies will oblige in return for some euros.

Doctorlib is just a booking portal (with online consultation facilities) they don’t have ‘anything’ to do with services or pricing.

Its ubiquitous here, even if you phone to book an appointment the provider usually uses doctorlib to manage their bookings and you get the confirmation

Zero interest in anything except our passports at eurotunnel yesterday. Oddly the car in front of us held things up considerably by declaring some firearms!?

Covid passport checked at the evening restaurant though as expected.

Thanks - still seems to be PCR tests on sale for the day 2 and the government continues to prevaricate with half term looming. I’m on a plane to Spain so no need for the UK sticker unless that’s now required for luggage too (skull and crossbones optional). Not travelling until the end of next week so I can probably wait a little while longer if it’s really only the booking ref that’s crucial.

Randox who have seemed to been generally favourably received aren't yet offering Day 2 Lateral Flow so far as I can see. Soooo many providers there on the Gov website! Anyone booked one?

having just postponed our Jan 2022 South Africa trip until Jan 2023, itself already postponed from the original 2021 date, we have decided we do need a foreign trip and some winter sun, so have booked a trip to Lanzarote for December. As well as hoping nothing changes on the green status, am also hoping the 2 day return test is a bit easier to understand and not as anxiety-inducing as it appears to be currently from reading the carrier and them .gov Web sites.

Did you sort your passport issue ?
with regards the Day 2 LFT I thought you can’t order until the 22nd and officially it’s 24th onwards.

Decided that the Timatic confirmation that he was good to travel (system used by BA and other airlines to assess who they should let on planes) and the clear statement from the Spanish government that 3 months validity is adequate was going to be the approach.

On Day 2 LFT that's probably it. Would have liked to book sooner but that's the best I can do.
