Travel Skiing anyone going?

So having turned down a boys trip next week, Deb has booked a trip first week in March. I didn’t get much warning.
So what to expect? Busy? A super spreader?
We’ll be in Courcheval 1650(Moriond). Small chalet with 2 friends, driving.
Anyone have experience or advise?

We are booked to be in Val d'Isere in March. I hope that it happens but understand that it might not. I will be trying to use open chairlifts in preference to closed 'bubbles' or large cable cars, even if this means not being able to access certain runs. Since you are staying in 1650 I should tell you that one of the worst meals that I have ever had was at Cucina Angelina, the Angela Hartnett restaurant situated in the Le Portetta Hotel in 1650.

We are going to the Dolomites (San Cassiano) at Easter. Mrs A doesn't ski (dodgy knees) and the kids haven't been before, so will be as much about the sun, scenery and restaurants as skiing per se. Really looking forward to it!

Thanks for the tip. I’ve always avoided the place, not what I go skiing for. If I could get a chalet with decent wine and honest food that would be ideal. As it is we’ll have honest food and undrinkable wine.

I can highly recommend Utia de Bioch, which you might be able to reach directly from San Cassiano by chairlift (or perhaps only from La Villa). Lovely spot on the mountain, good food, and a very strong, fairly-priced list. https://app.enoweb.com/carte/utiadebioch/356/it/

Went to Vail pre christmas and had a great time. Quality of snow and accessibility of skiing just can’t be matched anywhere else in the world in my view. There’s only 2 gondolas (with everything else chairlifts) and you don’t need to take either of them. Huge plus for me during this pandemic as I really don’t feel comfortable standing in a typical european cable car/gondola queue, let alone the 20+ min bit inside.

Les Gets (by car) for half term here, we will be avoiding the enclosed lifts etc.

It's looking quite busy as children's lessons were almost fully booked even before the UK was allowed in.

San Cassiano and the whole Sella Ronda area is truly stunning. However, with Easter as late as it is this year, you’re really pushing your luck with the snow conditions at that altitude.

Yeah I know. Fingers crossed the snow cannons can work. If not, we'll still have a good time - we went to Cortina and Ortisei in October a few years ago, and that was amazing without any skiing at all.

If you are in 1650 you might consider Le Bistro du Praz in 1300 for dinner. On the slopes in 1850 my favourite is Cave Des Creux and if you get over to Val Thorens, Chez Pepe Nicolas is always good value; in good weather sit outside, in bad weather try and get a table in the front room overlooking the terrace.

that's good going Dan, especially day 1. I seem to have lost all my ski tracks info in moving phones, i see it now has a backup/export function which i don't remember seeing before.

I'm off to Deux alpes 1st week of feb, which i had resigned myself to not going on (it was booked last summer in more optimistic times), so now trying to get my head back into gear to sort all my stuff out.

Another qu

Thanks again for the tips.
We’re mostly cheap plate of pasta for lunch people. La Bouc Blanc above La Tania and a place at the bottom of La Grange lift above St Martin, being regulars.
La Cave Du Croix is a regular coffee stop especially if snowy.

We're trying Austria (St Anton) in Feb half term as the queues in Grand Massif in Feb 2020 were "never again" level

Also got a weekend booked in Chamonix just for me and Anna in a couple of weeks. I'm going to try and get out to Saalbach for a few days also.

Getting a bit fed up of the crap and rip-off food and drink in the French alps compared to Austria and Italy.
