Supermarket promotions Q4 2022

Expect to see this quarter (in England and Wales)
Waitrose -
- 25% off 6+ in week from 2 November
- £10 'fine wine' range - 2 weeks from early December
Tesco, Sainsburys
- 25% off 6+ second half November

A quick reminder of the main conditions
- Waitrose include fortifieds but no other promotions run in parallel.
- Tesco requires Clubcard
For grocery home delivery, it's delivery date must be in the promotional period. Permit subsitutes (and reject on doorstep) to protect the discount. For Waitrose Cellar, order date counts

Hello Edward. It's been a long time since we saw you at a Manchester offline, although they do tend to be organised via emails these days, rather than the Forum offline planner. If you're interested in joining us again, drop me a PM with your email address and I'll pass your details on to the organiser.

A slightly unexpected one -
Tesco have 25% of 3+ of 'selected' wines from their Finest range (clubcard required, not in Scotland) until 17 October.

Includes their vintage port, which comes down to just £15. Image on website shows 2003 - I will try to check what's actually in store and report back.

At the cheap end, their Montepulciano d'Abruzzo received an IWC gold for what that's worth, and the Plaimont Cotes de Saint Mont are both £5.25 after discount.

That's a shame, meaning lurking visitors or forumites visiting the area won't see them.
It is a shame Tom.
But the constant silliness and accusations of “Willy Waving” mean that this has been a reality that I can personally recall going back as early as 2009.
I am sure it is not just a characteristic of our forum, rather more about society generally.
The compounding loss is if the notes are not shared for the same or similar reasons.

Honestly mot sure I get that Ray? Where's the willy waving in just announcing and planning a wine lunch or dinner? I've certainly organised a few in Glasgow, and currently in St Andrews, and can't say I've ever experienced any negativity?

I'm certain that's not why it happens, Ray. It's simply the difference between organising a private party and organising an event open to public subscription, both of which are of course perfectly reasonable.

Ah well just my imagination then.

As part of my search for wines for the upcoming tasting, I seem to be finding that the major supermarkets other than Waitrose seem to have stopped selling still white wine over £20/bottle.

Is this just me being stupid with the search, or a recent response to cost-of-living-crisis. This applies to Tesco, Sainsburys and M&S. Or maybe it's just what they choose to show online?

There is some limited clearance sale in Fortnum and Mason.

Apparently they decided to change their own label champagne blanc de noirs grand cru to another producer, so the left over Paul Dethune NV BdN grand cru is down to less than £50. Judging from the code behind, there are 2018 and 2019 two bottling years, I assume the 2019 one contains 2018 vintage base.

They also have the Platinum Jubilee English sparkling wine on sale (well, now the Queen is gone... :() for around £27, which is Laverstoke Park 2018 vintage. I remember tasting it back in July, not bad but didn't buy it then. Now I think £27 is not a bad price.

There are also some other English sparking rose wine on sale, if you can buy 6 bottles there is extra 10% off.

Just went to Morrisons, they're doing a 25% off if you buy 4 on nearly every still wine that isn't in a cheapo deal
As I noted elsewhere, my local shop has just upgraded its higher end of wines, so there are far more items in the £20-25 range (used to be nothing) meaning something like Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc, or Contino Reserva is effectively down from 23-24 a bottle to 17-18

Jim's spot confirmed for me by email from Morrison's last evening. Offer detail thus:-

"Buy 4, save 25%. Order by 18/10/2022, offer subject to availability. Maximum 20 promotional items per customer. Mix & match from over 300 wines"

Only had a very rapid quick scroll through what's on offer. Didn't note any champagne (could have missed) but did see Prosecco & English Sparkling.

Great result tonight. Getir app had Krug MV on promotion at £100. I also had a £15 off voucher. Snaffled the two bottles they had and a pair of 168 editions turned up as well as three free magnum ice creams. We’ve done with with DP as well a few months ago. Worth checking occasionally on the off chance.
Good tip. Worked for me too this afternoon. Two 168s have turned up, chilled. No ice creams for me but I’ll let them off.
