Coronavirus quarantine is almost over in my home country of Latvia. So I was bit late with my 1st Zoom winentasting which I organised for my friends. I prepared a set of 6 wines served in individual bottles. All bottles have gone through a rigorous disinfection! Delivered the day before to participants to let the wines rest and get properly chilled.
That was blind tasting and the topic inspired by Jasper Morris when he was recently visiting Riga!
The idea was to get the unbiased opinion on the wines I have prepared. I selected trendy Mâcon which was the underdog just a decade ago. And a deep dive in Saint Aubin, the village of a superb QPR wines and the immediate neighbor to Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet. All wines were coming from fantastic and very promising 2017 vintage. And look at all those star producers!
2017 Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon Mâcon-Milly-Lamartine Clos du Four
Sunny rich with intense aromas of sunflower seeds, hint of yellow fruits. Grassy, oily with medium body. Maybe slightly unbalanced alcohol.
2017 Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon Viré-Clessé
Fresher and rounder style. Floral and herbal with mineral touch. Bit of nuts. Very smooth and balanced.
2017 Domaine Francois Mikulski Saint Aubin
Reductive, light and elegant with focus on orchard fruits. Easy gentle floral wine with hints of apple. Soft and pleasant.
2017 Domaine Marc Colin St. Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly
Oh, this intense perfumed floral bouquet with acacia, and other white flowers. Bit of honey and beeswax, ripe fruits and tobacco. Multilayered and complex, satisfying both on the nose and the palate. WON
2017 Domaine Hubert Lamy St. Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly
Good intensity of aromas, but softer. Iodine and seaweed, beeswax. Mineral.
2017 Domaine Hubert Lamy St. Aubin 1er Cru Les Murgers des Dents de Chien
Floral, orchard fruits, powder. Warmer aromas. Stone fruits, yellow fruits. Hint of sun dried apricot. Leather. Acidity is pronounced. Good volume and depth on the palate. Long fruity finish.
