A pair of port pipes ...

... was offered to me today. The image below is a little overscale.

The blurb on the box says "These hand-blown port pipes with extra-long stems allow you to maximise your port tasting experience with ultimate style and sophistication!"

Quite how that works escapes me but I'm confident someone here will provide a convincing explanation.

It's something to do with drinking the port from the bottom up. I think the theory is that you drink the port that is not exposed to oxygen first. Quite how effective or useful it is I have no idea. Rightly or wrongly I have always dismissed them as a gimmick.
