Congratulations to New Zealand who have gained one slot in the World Test Championship Final at Lords in June (the Australia tour of South Africa having been called off).

Likely to be joined by India, just possibly England or if the upcoming I vs E series ends up being very level, Australia could still get there
Certainly adds some extra interest to the India v England series. Australia needs the India series to be drawn to get through. And fortunately NZ gets two tests against England as a warm up.

Weird stat from Chennai, looking back at the famous 2008 test: just one player on each side still playing in the current test - and both fast bowlers: James Anderson and Ishant Sharma
It's hard being a fast bowler in India. 98 tests as opposed to 158 for Anderson. Bet they wished they never played home games.

Odd last session in Chennai. Cook's theory, they wanted to have the ball nice and hard for tomorrow morning. If so they could have tried to score a few more runs.

Excellent victory with England’s fielding performance one of the highlights. Some outstanding catching - can only think of the Jofra difficult half chance that went down. Hope they can continue that standard throughout the series. Also enjoyed ‘that’ over from Anderson. If only Dom Bess can improve his consistency in order to keep up pressure at both ends.

It will be interesting to see what team England puts out for the rematch on Saturday. Presumably Foakes in for Buttler or will they change the policy around breaks? Will they rotate Broad for Anderson? For India, can we expect to see Kuldeep come in, possibly for Nadeem?

As ever, much will also depend on Joe Root’s luck with the coin.

Buttler is definitely going home John. In post match interviews, Anderson was keen to play in the next match. Personally I'd like to see Anderson and Broad open the bowling, Archer seemed to be holding back in the second innings.

Superb win by England and they have some ways to improve. Still need a 3rd bat. The spin attack has room for improvement.

Exciting times for England.

I can’t help feeling that it’s a little disappointing that the pitch and therefore the toss is going to play such a huge part in this game. In the first test we at least had three days where it could have gone either way and it was more the skill of the players that made the difference. Now it’s just a matter of time on a pitch where even I could get the thing to turn square, never mind mr ashwin and friends.

Puts into context just how good the 1st test performance from England was, notwithstanding the toss. The 3rd test is day/night so that will be and interesting variation and Anderson will presumably return. The challenge will be to avoid mental disintegration in this test as England have not become a bad team in 2 days.

As a non cricket expert/enthusiast , I’m just baffled as to how it can be so vital to win a toss - it seems that it’s such an advantage that it makes a joke of the game. Is it often like this? But yes, I have been on the juice.

I think I’ve come round to the idea that the away team should always have the option to bat first unless they decline. It might tone down the preparation of blatantly unfair pitches be they greentops or unpredictable spinners paradises in order to favour the home team. I see that even Mark Waugh has criticised this pitch! However, in this case I think that India would have outplayed England even if England had first use of this wicket.
