NWR Cricket

And yes Kevin 18,000 allowed in. The Eric Hollis stand have been in good voice. I decided against tickets when the uncertainty of COVID was more apparent. I took the plunge on Friday and bought two tickets for today for Gabi and I to sit in the sunshine and have a day out together, a rare event still. Watching England collapse last night was hard. If Root was still there I might have bothered, I’m not now going to drive in, park, queue etc etc for an hours play. Will they drag it out till 15.1 overs to avoid a full ticket refund?

That will add some interest Ian. So if the game doesn't last for 15 overs today you get your money back? If the last England wicket falls inside the first couple of overs you would think it would be all over inside 15 overs.

Haven't the West Indies become an embarrassment? Quite sad really. I don't know that SA are all that flash, but WI are making them look good. De Kock can almost beat them by himself.

It just shows how dramatically things can turn. I know it certainly hasn't been an overnight collapse by the Windies, but still pretty dramatic.

The big three really do need some other nations to be competitive. I suppose it does help NZ's chances of getting more and better tours.

Having sat through England's turgid start to the Euros, I am once again thankful for test cricket. Today saw an enthralling day at the Hampshire Bowl. NZ's bowlers were outstanding, admittedly in favourable conditions. Kyle Jamieson continued his remarkable start to test cricket - five five-wicket bags in his first eight tests! As was pointed out on both TMS and the Sky coverage, not since the 19th century has a bowler started his career so well.

India's bowlers were similarly impressive in their discipline, maintaining a probing line and length until bad light intervened. It was a shame (for us NZ fans) to see Conway depart, but I'd have taken 101/2 at the start of the innings. Tomorrow will be crucial - and unmissable.

This New Zealander certainly is! Such was the tension earlier, I almost envied my NZ relatives their sleep. I wasn't able to look away from the ball-by-ball updates on cricinfo all day; now home from work and able to watch it on TV, it's even worse. Yet Kane Williamson looks as calm as can be.

This has been a terrific test match. The bowling by both sides has been outstanding - as has most of the fielding (as I write, a catch in the slips has been spilled). A game for neutrals, for sure. For New Zealanders, however, this is special. After the humiliation of 2015 and the heartbreak of 2019, this NZ team is on the cusp of victory.
