NWR Cricket

Sadly not. Was planning to do the full five days only for my kids to come down with chicken pox which, if nothing else, works as a nice little summary of the last eighteen months.

Hameed, Moeen and Wood in for Crawley, Lawrence and Broad which seems entirely reasonable to me.

I attended. Arrived outside at 10.00
Joined the right queue. 1 hour 10 minutes to gain entry. Got to our seat with a delayed start and 3 overs gone. For some reason Root the captain had put the Indians in! Very poor opening bowling attack with Anderson etc. Wood came on with Robinson. Wood is quick but bowled far to short. Opening bowlers must make the batsmen play and bowl close to a full length. Very poor organisation getting the folks in. At Adelaide and Lords you must bat first if you win the toss. Curran is average on a batsmen wicket
I do think the wicket keeper could come forward by a metre. A good day out but for £156 one should expect more

At least you got in 90 overs of cricket Max, a rarity in this day and age.

Certainly not a cheap day out in the UK, we don't pay that much to get in here, although we probably end up paying that much for booze as we most certainly can't take our own wine in.

What were they doing to keep you waiting in the queue over an hour Max? I was at all 4 days at sold-out Trent Bridge and didn’t queue at all, arriving at what I guess is roughly peak arrival time, c.30 mins before start of play.

546F61C9-6FC3-4E3A-B1AA-0E1A945E09BB.jpegThey’ll let anyone in these days….

On the cricketing front, day 2 honours even after a closely fought contest between bat and ball. I suspect England will have to bat through Saturday to make a game of it, and they will not get better conditions than today. India look stronger in all departments with Root and Anderson probably the only England players in a composite XI.

On the wine front, Hebrart PC Cuvee De Reserve continues to please crowds, DP 2010 continues to be toasty, powerful, intense and a bit too young, Rossignol-Trapet Gevrey 2011 continues to be rather gorgeous.

On the queuing front, I’d go straight to the Grace Gates or Bicentenary Gates, regardless of what it says on the ticket.
