Has anyone consumed borage, beyond using the flowers for decoration, in any culinary manner they'd recommend?

There are a number of recipes online, but they give the decided impression that eating the plant is a matter of moral superiority. Health, sustainability and honesty are mentioned disturbingly often, three concepts that seem needless when contemplating, for example, bearnaise.

successful & satisfying involvement in team sport
A pleasure in life that has I fear passed me by. I was captain of the fourth eleven on one occasion at my (very small) preparatory school but I fear the occasion ended in ignominious defeat and a 'match tea' the horror of which stays vividly with me nearly fifty years later. A few preprandial Martinis would certainly have helped and at the age of 12 Pimms would have gone some of the way.

Tom it reminds me fondly of a section of John Betjeman's Summoned by Bells where he recounts taking the job of cricket master even though he had never played, his rapid and ignominious decline and utter loss of respect from his 'boys' sees sorrow and humiliation explained in such an understated English manner.

Other forms of camaraderie are available. But I suspect the time of life to cheerfully consume alcopops, of which Pimm's is a superior example, is adolescence.

Nice Richard - its vvearly in the season but I’ve seen three tenths of bugger all so far this year - mind you the St Georges mushrooms in
“my usual place” only seem to pop up every second or third year.

Pimms (made properly) is a routine post finish line tipple when racing afloat, and I have some fond memories of ghosting along on sunlit hebridean waters sipping one, so my feeling is team sport may not be entirely neccessary :)

How about croquet?

This is a boast worth perpetuating. I propose referring to Thom exclusively as Cap henceforth.

That, and the previous mentions of langoustines, are almost enough to make me imagine I should risk a watery death, Stephen. (The character I most identified with in Kidnapped was Alan Breck Stewart. That wasn't because of his bravery in battle but his cowardice in the face of deep water.)

It's elderflower time and there seems to be loads of it around, so there's no reason for feeling guilty about taking some.

Last year I tried making some 'champagne' which started well but soon went bad. But the sorbet worked well and was delicious so I'll be making more of that this year.
