Forum in mid-upgrade

I've had to use Crtrl-F5 more than once in Firefox to get the emojis back - they're there then they're not.
The hard refresh only clears cache for the given page rather than the whole site, if you're having to do it repeatedly, can you try clearing your cache through the Firefox settings menu? That'll dump your whole cache folder. Would be interested to know if the problem continues after doing that....

Once I do the hard refresh, the rest of the site works fine - not just that particular page. I've only noticed a few times that the emojis aren't working as I don't tend to look for/use them.

Thanks Julian. Yes, I think that is a good idea. Whatever your browser and device combination, you will find instructions on how to completely clear the cache. I *think* you can do it on a site by site basis, but it will be the way to see you are always seeing the new forum, wherever you are within the forum. I had to do this myself.

I received the following reply from the support team at CellarTracker.
The new forum software doesn't support any way of pre-populating thread titles or content (previously it could at least do the titles). However, CT were able to update the links so they at least go to the right page now. We'll have to copy and paste the title and body content ourselves.

Mark, smeone called Dan from CT got in touch with me a couple of days ago (probably after you're prompt) and I gave some details of the forum software to try help him sort it out. He came back yesterday with this:

"Hi Tom,
I took a look, and it doesn’t seem that I can automate pre-populating a post by default. It might be possible if you did some customization to the software, but not sure if you want to undertake that."

As it is I have no idea what the customization would be, and would have to re-engage the developer to understand and try to do it. Plus I do not know if those customizations would have to be re-done each time the forum software releases an upgrade. As relatively few people use the cross-posting function and i am reluctant to mess around with the forum code just as it is bedding in, do you think the copy and paste function will do the job for you?

God, I've got to legislate for the terminally butter-fingered now! :D

I agree it would be more sensible if the follow and ignore where maybe either side of the 'Start conversation', but not sure this would be an easy one to change unfortunately. I'll have a look at the software's help forums to see if anyone has raised this.

Is there a way to edit thread titles as they evolve? For example, I would like to add some text to the title of my "ullage concern" thread to show that it also includes info on Corsican sangiovese, so that anybody else interested in this can find it easily.

I have also just realised (slow thinking) that posting only photographs of bottles with no text to identify them does not help with searches, e.g., in the what are we drinking threads, so I am going to make sure that I always add a text identifier from now on.

For consideration, and this is currently user-error, but the image-posting system doesn't seem to be particularly intuitive or user-friendly. I always end up posting multiple images and then having to edit the post to remove some as I am not sure when an image has been uploaded. I will get the hang of it, but is any adjustments are considered to this function, this might be an area to look at.

Searching didn't seem to work well at first on a Samsung S8 with Chrome, but now seems fine.

Yes. I did it on a thread of mine recently. Can't remember how I did it though. A link to click somewhere above the first post in the thread, I think. Got to be your thread, of course.

Glad it's sorted - apologies if i don't always leap in to answer or investigate these queries straight away, but it is often a bit more complicated and time consuming than it might at first appear - for a start i have a different view of the forum from everyone else as its administrator - some of the links, buttons and functions I see are not standard - so I need to log out and log in again with a dummy account. Then the forum will look different depending on what device you are viewing on (phone/tablet/computer) so sometimes the buttons or behaviours people refer to are specific to their environment, but not mine, which needs further investigation. In short, it's great when the community is able to step in and answer - it is much appreciated.
