Lay and Wheeler Cellar Circle

Maybe the reach of wine pages is long, as ever, or maybe it’s coincidence of timing but I’ve just had an email from L&W notifying of this “as of today” (apparently).
Yes spoke to my account manager who did say an email was due out today informing customers.
Any already initiated will be loaded up. Email says in anticipation of the busy period after discussing with LCB etc - translated as they won‘t be able to cope. I think this is part of the reason they want their own facility so they can staff it themselves and deliver themselves, though the LCB delivery system seems pretty good and I’ve had no complaints.

...this thread moves more quickly than I can ! I guess I should expect an email at some point, because as yet I have heard nothing - and had no response despite emailing L&W yesterday morning... Alors! At least this thread has kept me informed...

This is the email I received (after a grumble to my account manager):

As we approach the busy Christmas period, and to ensure that we can offer the level of service you expect as well as fulfilling all delivery orders, it’s necessary for us to make a change to the services that we provide.
Therefore as of today, until the 4th January 2022, we won’t be able to receive wines at the warehouse that are being moved into your reserves, either from your home, or as transfers from other merchants.
We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause. It is a decision made alongside our logistics provider, London City Bond in light of their prediction of greater disruption than usual that is expected across numerous industries this winter.

Please note that any previous deliveries awaiting booking onto the system are unaffected.

We thank you for your understanding, and if you have any questions or queries please do get in touch with the customer care team, or with your account manager.

After my own whinge, I received a reply which included a little bit more detail: "... Normally, Vinotheque don’t take any inbound transfers throughout December, so this is essentially an extension of that. The reason for this extension on the limitation of warehouse activity is that we have seen a significant increase in transfers to, and withdrawals from, customer reserves in the last couple of years (this is part of the reason why we are currently building our own, larger warehouse). Vinotheque is not a particularly large facility, so the number of people who can work there at any time is quite limited. Hopefully, with the creation of our own warehouse, such issues will become a thing of the past."

Have they given an ETA on the completion of their own warehouse?
Yes it was announced in February, I think planning passed in August so would hope it has started.
I saw an article that said LCB would help the transition mid 2022 but I’m thinking it will be 2023 before full operation ?
if it’s up and running this time next year then will be great.
It’s based out near Ipswich and will be a HQ, tasting room and storage facility.

If they are back to normal I’m January that’s great but be good to see what happens with the new warehouse and delivery infrastructure. The LCB delivery service has been very good. Just received my latest withdrawal in under a week as normal even including the weekend

Ooh, Ipswich is relatively near. I wonder if that will help?!
