Mail order beer

Honest beer
Beermerchants

Are the ones I use the most. I think the best way to use them is to look for the new arrivals. I am a hop head though and freshness is important to me. I am actually on both mailing lists and that’s the best way for me to see what is available after release.

I’ve ordered from a favourite West Country brewery, Butcombe, recently. Their Original is a fine, old fashioned best bitter and Goram is a more modern, highly hopped IPA. Cases of 8 large bottles( about a pint?).

i went through their drive through today as it was necessary for me to go into the office, so i got some bottles of their 1l fresh beer, very good it is too

Received some Castle Rock Elsie Mo yesterday in an 8-pt polypin - marvellous stuff. Real Ale - at home!

For non-Brit beer I use Ian's suggestion of Beers of Europe or Beerhawk, depending on what they've got in. Beers of Europe, good though they are, can be a touch frustrating in that they list tons of beers which aren't actually available. I think Beerhawk have a slightly lower free delivery ceiling, but nowhere near the (potential) range at BOE. I'll have a look at the others mentioned though, because I rarely find exactly what I want in BOE or BH; what I need is a good German specialist, as that's the vast majority of what I buy.

Beers of Europe looked good and I had a basket almost full but they didn’t have stock after the two I really was after

Yes I think they miss a trick somewhere along the way; whilst I appreciate they can't hold stock of everything, either
  • "hiding" stuff that's not in stock (perhaps one can do this in a search actually but I've not found it) or
  • holding low (single crate) stocks of much of what they say they sell
might make the buying process more edifying - they've lost trade to Beerhawk for me and now Beerwulf to you despite us having filled baskets: can't be good biz practice surely. I like Hacker Pschorr's beers, which I believe are getting towards a large macro set-up in terms of distribution - a search for that shows 23 products of which the only available stock are 3 branded glasses! Don't get it.

I value their ambition so think I'll email them directly as there's no point just bitching about it on a forum! If they answer (sure they've got more pressing issues at the mo!) I'll report back.

Beers of Europe basically an import / wholesale business, but who do operate a website and warehouse shop, I guess to just top up the core business. Definitely the best experience is getting there in person (a few miles south of Kings Lynn) and walking through their two warehouses with a supermarket shopping trolley.

I just received a first case from Beer52. Not a huge range but quite interesting, if you lean towards the modern IPA style and a very quick turnaround from order to delivery. The clincher was finding a beer from Croatia's Garden Brewery!
