Musar Red 2014

I'm very excited about this release - the best in years IMHO. Obviously one shouldn't judge on the basis of a few hours with one bottle, but this was lovely.
Although I was initially concerned that it was a touch on the sterile side; after some air and with some food, the soubois, spices and fruit melange began to work their magic. Just my cup of tea. I suspect this might even persuade a few Musaroskeptics that there's quality materiel here....

Slobber slobber! Musar never disappoints! Interestingly, I rarely buy the new released in more than single bottles mainly due to being able to pick up older stuff for pretty much the same price - ie: i picked up 12 of the 2001 for c£20 per recently.

As you have done though - when that new release comes out I always check it out.

Better than the 2010?

I'm having a sample of this delivered AFAIK, so looking forward to tasting. I really liked the 2013, which was also surprisingly (?) clean but a really lovely wine.

Despite having some '11 & '12, I haven't tried anything older than '10.

However, I'll be on the lookout for the '14 when it pops up in my LWS thanks Alex.

Hmm, might have to go open a bottle for tonight now...

So, just tasted this morning but note the caveat in the tasting note:

Château Musar, Red Wine 2014
Bekaa Valley, Lebanon, Dry Red, Cork, 14.0% abv
92/100. First a caveat that this was only a sample of Musar, delivered to me in a miniaturised bag-in-box type format, which I did not have a chance to open for a few days after it arrived, so notes and scores taken with that caveat please. It's a remarkably dense and deep young Musar, depth of colour with immediately plummy and smooth aromas, a little cherry lift coming through as well as some smoky, tobacco spice. In the mouth the sheer abundance of fruit is almost shocking: masses of ripe berries and plum again, the underpinning of the creamy and cedary oak, smooth, chocolate-dense tannins and very nice, pert acidity. This is a particularly generous and full Musar vintage, and could well be worth more than my modest 92 point score, which I will update when I have a chance to taste from a freshly opened bottle. What a good question! I'm struggling to remember, Had 98 and 01 relatively recently, but I can't remember a recent tasting of 2012 or something else. That'll have to be remedied.

BTW, opened a bottle of 2013 red today. It was very good. Not quite as good as 2014, but not far off. The thing is that the last time I tried it, I was very disappointed. I even opened a second bottle to check. THat was a shipment from TWS. When I was talking with Alan from Divine Fine Wine, he was raving about it, and we wondered if our sensibilities were really that far apart. So he sent me a bottle from his own supplies - this bottle - leaving me wondering if there's been significant batch variation. I wonder if that means I need to open another TWS bottle soon so I can try side by side. At least if that's "bad", I can return the rest of them. Don't get me wrong, the TWS bottles weren't exactly undrinkable, but they were boring and mean.
