Drivers of expensive German cars and how indifferent they are compared to the average driver when it comes to considering bicyclists. So far it's been numerous cases of me rolling my eyes at why must they speed past with just nanometers of space in between almost knocking me over. But if I do get knocked over it will no longer be a silly little thing but something serious. But why is it always Audis and BMWs that do this?
Well, pardon me, I've read some sweeping generalisations in my time, and plenty of dubious stuff on this Forum over the years, but am incredulous Mr Nieminen. Like Paul A I am also a BMW owner, and also a cyclist (albeit not a retired amateur racing one - chapeau Mr A).
I don't regard my 3 Series BMW Estate as notably expensive - if I can afford it it can't be 'that' expensive. It's my first BMW, bought 5 years ago at age 61 (me that is, not the car !). As someone also a cyclist, and now loving being back on my road bike, building outing mileage, after c 3 years off it due to health issues, I'm also mindful, and have been for years, when behind the wheel of the cycling fraternity - waiting to pass, wide berth, lots of room etc etc which practices I also apply to horses on our local roads.
I can only acknowledge you are entitled to your opinion, in your country, but from my experience, certainly in my locale, you could not be more wrong. I have had some near misses on my bike, haven't we all, only a few fortunately, but all different and am not going to/cannot generalise. As it happens the nearest 'brush' I've had in 9 years of road bike ownership coincidentally came last weekend - this was on a local dual carriageway straight stretch, with nothing in the outside lane, when an articulated truck (from E H Booth & Co, the so called Waitrose of the North) passed me very closely indeed, seemingly not allowing any extra room at all, causing me to wobble slightly which was a tad scary.
Only BMWs & Audis - no, not for me.
