is it any good? second wines from Sauternes have always disappointed in my experience.Aldi's "specially selected Sauternes" was reduced to £6.50 per half at my store. It's actually relabelled Lions de Suduiraut 2016, as confirmed by the cork! They've not restocked since I cleared them out so your mileage may vary.
I like it, young and powerful and full of sugar. No real depth or complexity but I wouldn't expect thatis it any good? second wines from Sauternes have always disappointed in my experience.
Curiously the Lions de Suduiraut served at the dinner the other night seems to have been a dry wine!I like it, young and powerful and full of sugar. No real depth or complexity but I wouldn't expect that
Got a few bottles to try from Costco today 20% off some wines….View attachment 25863
Hope you got a positive resolution Po?Just collecting my Waitrose order from local shop, nice big box, but slightly lighter than 6 bottles? I opened it in front of the staff, found there are only four bottles in it.... Luckily I didn‘t ask to send to home and luckily I didn‘t just carry the whole box home without opening! Now waiting for solution in shop.
There are two Lions de Suduiraut, one is the second wine of grand vin sweet wine, one is with "blanc sec", the "second wine" of their dry white, which is a new line for them? Now Suduiraut have three dry white and we were served 2021 vintage of the basic dry white as aperitif and an introduction of new vintage.Curiously the Lions de Suduiraut served at the dinner the other night seems to have been a dry wine!
Good for you!Hope you got a positive resolution Po?
Thankfully 6 bottles turned up in my order yesterday....... I did open it on the doorstep before the driver left just in case I needed an independent witness after your experience.
Can you not just buy two cellar Defenders for £10 or less? We padded our order with a few bottles of Guigal CdR.Good for you!
The solution was that they will send the missing two bottles again, but as I predicted, those wine are now out of stock, so they can only do refund. So many things are sold out now I can‘t even find any reasonable substitution option.
They offered substitution with "similar price", or refund. I guess that means I can have gone for slightly higher price ones as its their fault. But simply couldn‘t find anything interesting still in stock. Can you not just buy two cellar Defenders for £10 or less? We padded our order with a few bottles of Guigal CdR.
@Mark Hardy @Steven Pritchard Is the Hess any good? Curious to try. I've had the Kirkland Russian River PN which was certainly serviceable. Curious to try their Kirkland Cali Chard too. I also spotted in Costco that they have a Willamette Valley PN from 2016.
I am sure I am a lone dissenting voice, and will likely get ran out of town and lynched but….I’ll give it a bash during the week. On a different note a magnum of 242 was a different beast versus the 241, candied peel, a little Botrytis sitting on top of lemony fruit. The 241 is a lovely, Chardonnay dominated beast, sleek and reductive, and although the 242 will lose weight and gain structure as it ages, the 241 magnum is a point ahead (95/100).
Mumm Cordon Rouge is pretty cheap. I had a couple of surprisingly excellent bottles a couple of years ago and wonder what the current state of play is.Looks like Sainsburys have a random 25% off 6 running this week until 26th June
Beat me to it!Looks like Sainsburys have a random 25% off 6 running this week until 26th June
Thanks for the warning, Ray, I nearly bought a case of Magnums in the Waitrose sale. I did like the Brut Premier very much.
