Supermarket promotions Q4 2021

Next weekend, 29-31, Lidl are knocking £3 off their St Emilion Grand Cru bringing the price down to 8.99. The picture shows the 19 vintage but it will be worth checking when the stock arrives as to which year it really is. I've recently had the 15 and 16 vintages of this wine and enjoyed them. If the 19 it certainly will need a few years ageing but at that price I don't think you can go far wrong.

Had a CB 19, Lilian Ladouys last month that was delicious and very approachable now.

Tesco seem to be deviating from past form - that would suggest there should be a Tesco promotion right now; insofar as prior years are a still guide, the next one is likely to be late November.

Waitrose seem to have released a fair few 2016 Bordeaux on their cellar website just in time for the upcoming 25% off. Good opportunity to grab a nice mixed bdx case

I wonder whether it's possible to fill an online basket now and wait to click once the deal is live but maybe that's a little desperate!

Where does it tell you the vintage, Michael?
It’s in the title of the wines being sold Paul
For example: Château Palmer Alter Ego de Palmer 2016 Margaux Second Label France - Waitrose Cellar

Best way is to just use the region search under all wines and filter by Bordeaux, then sort by price high to low to see a list of the 2016 & 2015s up for grabs. Sadly it doesn’t let you filter by vintage but by sorting them by price you’ll drop the usual supermkt offering to the bottom of the page

That's what I sort of did (except I sorted price low to high, seeing as I'm Scottish) and none of the wines on page 1 had vintage displayed. Got a bit better on pages 2 and 3 but still quite a few not showing the vintage.

The ones not showing vintage are likely to be subject to vintage variance risk. It’s just the (classed growth and second wines) ones labelled as 2015 or 2016 in the title (and sadly the upper pricing end) that should be observable/reliable.I believe these are EP cases purchased that they are now releasing

Based on experience I’d agree with you in usual instances but I think these are EP releases so they should hold firm to the vintage advertised in the title
I hope that's right, Michael. The last time it happened to me, they had been offering two vintages of Mouton Rothschild. One was a great vintage and the other was (IIRC) 2013. I'd be pretty miffed if I'd ordered, say, 2010 Mouton and 2013 turned up! I hasten to add that I hadn't ordered Mouton Rothschild myself - it was Tondonia Reserva in my case.
