Supermarket promotions Q4 2021

The semi-annual Waitrose bun fight has begun.

Taittinger Comtes has been listed as 2011, rather than the 08 which is now going for £160+/bt IB so would’ve been a bargain. No DP or Krug available, so looks like a case of “wait and see” on the top champagne.

No doubt lots of good other offers out there!

I noticed a rare double-dip on Waitrose Cellar - the Frei brothers Chardonnay has £5 off and then the 25% on top. Goes from £17.99 to £9.74. Could be an oversight or there might be other stackables out there...

Dammit
When i pre-loaded my trolley it was with 08 Comtes and Ducru.
Now I see the Comtes is 2011 and only a couple of the Ducru left

How good is the 2011 champagne vintage?

Well, I almost convinced myself that as a birthday treat I should buy myself a load of 2016 BDX, before realising that if I'm not keen on the stuff now I probably wont be by the time it is ready to drink. To celebrate this rare outbreak of good sense I bought a load of other stuff instead that already like very much (Querciabella CC, Massa Timorasso, Inama Foscarino, and Piron bojos). I also see they Have Drouhin Dundee Hills PN - has anyone had this recently? We visited a long time ago but I haven't tasted the wines since.

My local Waitrose had a lot of gaps on the shelves when I arrived this morning. Spotted the Frei Chardonnay reduced but it was the only one I noticed. Other wines on special offer yesterday seemed to have all returned to full price. Picked up some Frei, Hill Smith Chardonnay and a couple of bottles of premier cru Chablis as a treat, I hope plus a few cheapies. Having £10 off vouchers if you spend £50 meant I had to use my brain and just get over the £50 limit after the 25% discount. Did that twice. So effectively a triple discount on the Frei and double on everything else. Very generous of you Waitrose.

I just came back from Waitrose. Always better to see what they actually have rather than return on site later on, well at least I think it's better, less trouble for me, less trouble for Waitrose staffs. (providing you can carry all those bottles, of course)
The store still has Comtes 2007, but Cristal is 2013 (quite some of us in Cristal offline think it's better than 2012), DP is 2012, Krug is 2013 base, even le Mesnil bdb is 2013. I can only say I am happy that I gave up Krug 2008 purchase in Clos19 and directed my limited budget to this.
