Supermarket promotions Q4 2021

A friend just contacted me to ask how the Musar 2002 in halves (apparently in the offer) was showing, so I had to open one to find out. The answer is "very nicely, thank you" and no worries about being OTH. I'd previously been eating a slightly stale chocolate biscuit, and it even went OK with that!

Lucky you. I bought 12 from Waitrose last year, and so far 3/3 have been very poor - tired and pruney. So, so different to the lovely '01 full bottles bought at the same time.

Poor you - I guess you didn't think it worth the bother to return them? There are those, of course, who've had ropey bottles of 01.
Actually, a friend of mine has said that when he complained, they did just refund him.

02 halves are good when they're good, but the corks are awful and the last batch of six I bought yielded two corked.
Interesting. Best to hang on to your receipt, then. Also, they're pretty much for early drinking. Can't see them getting any better.

If rumours of Waitrose delisting Musar are true, then this will be one of the reasons why. But how they managed to come into such a large batch of 20 year old halves, I can't imagine!

It felt a bit churlish, since they were not obviously, horribly corked, and I tend to think you assume a fair bit of risk buying old-ish halves of Musar from a grocers. But if the next one is crap I might ask them to take the others back.

Churlish to not accept faulty goods? Strange position! Mine were very obviously and undrinkably corked and duly refunded by Waitrose, who are very good about it. They do know about the problems with Musar - last year when buying halves at Oxford St a member of staff advised using prongs to open.

I had planned to get some Muga and Tokaji Aszu yesterday but after adding it to my basket, confirming my age, and getting part way through the checking out process, it decided the Tokaji was sold out. I may head into my local later to get the Tokaji as it's our go to sweetie.
