Supermarket promotions Q4 2021

Any views on the current TWS champagne 6-pack offers. I see Lilbert is there with 50% 2017 and 50% reserves. anything tempted anyone?

I've bought some, both the regular NV and Perle, latter now sold out. As Steve says, you are better off waiting a bit before popping as they can be a bit assertive young. Drank half of a NV tonight and looking forward to the rest tomorrow, great value @ 175/6.

I think I read somewhere that the CIVC has reduced the agreed yields over the past couple of years to prevent Champagne prices falling in the context of reduced demand amid the pandemic. Perhaps that has something to do with it?
There's also a deliberate decision to throttle the UK grey market in Champagne, something quite straighforward to do since January the first.

We had a bottle of the Laherte last weekend (disgorged May '20 according to the back label), and it was delicious - surprisingly rich, but still fresh. Good value IMO at the reduced price.

I should have specified that I bought that bottle at the beginning of the year, so I don't know when the current stock was disgorged.

Just to follow up on these, I bought a fair bit too and have tried a couple of bottles. It is very young in my opinion. NV now also sealed under DIAM which I previously thought was Perle only.

It’s a great deal but not for current drinking by a long shot IMO. I will be stuffing mine away for at least 3 years.

A couple of new Christmas releases on Tesco groceries website which currently has Simonnet-Febvre Chablis 1er Cru Mont de Milieu and Fourchaum available at clubcard price £15 plus 25% off 6 if purchased before 19th Dec. Vintage not specified
An outpost of Louis Latour, our illustrious forum chief visited them back in 2015 and seems to have some positive things to say: The wines of Simonnet-Febvre, Chablis

They also have an Arthur Barolet Savigny les beaune offered for the same price of £11.25 after all discounts too. No vintage mentioned again

I assume it will be 2020. Can't trace any reviews. NM/Vinous unenthusiastic regards '18/19.

Is Arthur Barolet the same as Dr Barolet? The latter's wines used to have a good reputation. I've never had one, although I have a 1983 Nuits somewhere.

I think they are produced by Henri de Villamont in Savigny. It was a 2018 here in sarf east London - and certainly worth the £11.25 they are asking for it. A decent village Savigny for the price of a Bourgogne rouge (if you can even find one of those for £11.25). Has the ripeness of the vintage - but still some freshness and red fruited. Can't complain.

The utter bargain for me in the TEE sale was the 2020 Bellingham 'The Bernard Series' old vine Chenin Blanc (13.5%vol); £10-> £8.00-> £6.00-> £4.80. £14~16 at most merchants. Fill your boots - as I did by the case but surely a loss leader??!! Great drinking full of old spicy oak, yellow/white primary fruit, fullness & a long gratifying finish. It has 5 years of cellaring within it. Good drinking. 13.5%vol 89pts.

Filled my boots too but at £6 rather than £4.80. Not complaining though. I got a mix of the 2019 & 2020.

Chablis was also 2018 down my way. It was decent enough - although a bit heavier than I would want and lacking a bit of the tension I'd like to see as a result. Still can't really complain at £11.25 - but would not be queueing up for it at £25.
I should have said that was the Mont de Milieu - the Fourchaume was altogether more lithe with no lesser intensity. Might be tempted back in store with my (label) reading glasses on.

I get £6 - promoted down to £8 and then 25% off. How did you get the extra 20%?
My youngest still has a Colleague Clubcard from a Saturday job. It was 20% off week last week and the spend doesn't count toward the annual allowance. The Belgium 750ml muselet sealed Tripel Karmeliet ale (8.4%) - arguably the best Triple out there - was down to a mere £3.80. I bought a lot of that too!!!

Edit: I also bought multiples of...
2017 Guigal Cotes Du Rhone Red (14.5%vol); £12.00-> £10.00-> £7.50-> £6.00
2019 Vasse Felix Shiraz (14.5%vol); £12.00-> £10.00-> £7.50-> £6.00
2020 Vasse Felix Semillon/Sauvignon Blanc (13%vol); £12.00-> £10.00-> £7.50-> £6.00
