On tap at Pure Project. As the temperatures began to drop on December 30th, we drove up to Pure Project's Carlsbad location primarily for an evening enjoying their two new "murky" (read hazy) IPA's.
However, the star of the show was New Fashioned Batch 7, a gorgeous Flanders Red Ale. Batch 7 is an Imperial Sour Red Ale aged in Breckenridge Distillery Bourbon barrels with organic tart cherries and orange peel added.
Both dark cherries and orange dominated the nose and they were the key flavours on the palate with some warmth provided from the bourbon. Being a sour, you couldn't escape the tartness, combined with a light effervescence.
A beautifully balanced and stunning ale. That's our little Yorkie, Sofie Marie, enjoying 40-winks next to Batch 7. She's been to more breweries and taprooms across the country than I've had hot dinners!
