Just back from an amazing, although semistaged, Parsifal. Bergen Philharmonic with Gardner and some of the same singers as in their Grimes.

Seldom has the difference between the man and his music been larger than in Wagner.

At a good concert given by the LPO on Wednesday. Main items were Michael Tippett's Piano Concerto (soloist Steven Osborne) and Elgar's 1st symphony. The Festival Hall's notorious acoustics let the soloist down at times in the concerto but otherwise this was a fine concert, ably conducted by Edward Gardner.
At home I've listened to a variety of things. Most recent were a CD of piano music by Erik Satie, including his most famous works, Gnossiennes and Gymnopédies; and the 5th symphony by Sibelius.
