TN: Ardbeg 8 Year old Committee Bottling

Roasted herbs, cabbage, tar and dried apricot on the nose. Some kippers and classic Ardbeg smoke… but not a huge amount of it… I was expecting more!

Burnt earth, smoke, fire and burnt grass… apricot and fig. There’s plenty of sweetness on the palate. The peat lingers! But it isn’t slapping me in the face! Maybe I’m expecting too much? The finish hints at what might have been and leaves a volcanic burn (lava?) on the back palate.

Two drops of water gives a bit more Earth, wing and fire… starting to sing but not in the way you’d expect. The volcano is still there!

Six drops brings more of the fruit back to the nose. Lots of stewed baked fruit on the palate with burnt hay… apricot, fig, baked apple on a bbq smoker.

Ten drops brings the smoke to the fore but it still isn’t slapping me in the face… I was probably expecting too much? Or something more the like SMWS “War and Peat” bottling… if it was not an Ardbeg I’d probably love it… especially with just two drops of water!

6-7/10

Sounds intriguing Jonathan but it looks like you may have missed the 4 drops sweet spot. What was the alcohol percentage?

I've not seen this Ardbeg in the local market (Edmonton, Canada) but have seen the 5 Year-Old "Wee Beastie". Plenty of good reviews for the 5 but the price of this is not much different than the classic Ardbeg 10. As far as I am concerned why buy the 5 yrsr-old when for virtually the same price one could have the 10 year-old.

Hi Mahmoud, if you sign up to the Ardbeg mailing list then it is available through their online shop. They do a number of pre-release bottling to test out before full release and if feedback isn’t good they move on!

You’d need to check whether they deliver to Canada. They only ship to limited locations’
