Excellent series until late in the day when it jumps the shark.Quite enjoying Rake on Netflix, set in Sydney. If I describe it as a bit like Rumpole, if Rumpole was a divorced, semi-alcoholic, drug taking, sex obsessed Australian barrister you will have a rough idea of the program.
I missed FND and will give it a try. He was certainly outstanding and absolutely compelling as Dyatlov in Chernobyl, as were so many others.Following news of the desperately untimely death of the actor Paul Ritter a few days ago, I've gone back to binge on the C4 sitcom Friday Night Dinner from the beginning. What's clear from his very first entrance in the first episode is that his Martin Goodman is one of the very greatest humane comic creations, a figure of a kind of centripetal anarchy, all done with virtuoso economy of gesture, so compelling to watch, and uplifting too in the face of the void.
He was an actor of enormous range too, viz. his terrifying turn as the negligent supervisor Dyatlov in Chernobyl and many other memorable roles.
Looking back at Chernobyl, he dominated every scene he was in just by his demeanour. Brilliant acting.FND - I was introduced to this via my 2 boys - love it and now "Shit on it" is (much to my wife's horror) a regular phrase coming from my lips.
Looking at his other work, he really was an incredible actor. Cherynobl he was very intense.
Has everyone seen 'Nairn Across Britain', now available on the iplayer? absolutely unmissable.
