TWS Rhône 19 offer

The Tunnel St Peray should be good. On subs you can reject them when you see what they are, so no sweet to roll the dice. Also you then get a first look at the remains list.

I was lucky enough to have got everything I asked for (counting 3 Gonon as what I asked for):

- Gonon St J
- Colombier Hermitage
- Moulin de Gardette Gigondas
- Voge Fleur de Crussol
- Guigal St J blanc (which also seems to have been allocated)

Strange as my TWS spend is actually down this year!

Missed out on Crozes Sorrel (as usual) but got everything else. I never ask for anything fancy except for the Clusel Roch’s which are always left over (even at J&B). Never even bother to ask for Gonon these days.

Bought nearly as much white as red this year. Only time will tell if that’s a mistake.

Jaume, and Vinsobres more generally, and nearby Visan, are v interesting, especially given higher syrah proportions and altitude. I'd have bought a few things had they been in smaller pack sizes. They weren't, so I'll just wait and hope they turn up on the main list in time. Indeed, there's a 2015 Jaume available now, which I've bought a couple of bottles of.

I didn’t order anything as I don’t need it but it did strike me that a lot of the regular producers were missing this year, and conversely there were quite a few producers who don’t usually feature in TWS’s offers. I wonder whether this was the consequence of the more difficult logistics that have applied during the pandemic. I gather that Marcel O-W did manage to visit the region while the lockdown was lifted last summer/autumn but perhaps he couldn’t taste as widely as usual. I’ve not researched it in detail but I gained the impression that the offer was, overall, a bit less wide-ranging than normal.

I thought the same Colin, I wondered if it was about the quality, or alcohol, vs prices or something else that drove the changes ?

Got everything I asked for apart from Faurie....which I never seem to get. Whereas I have always been allocated Gonon. I do find it odd that they allocate Gonon in 3 packs in order to spread it out, but clearly don’t adopt the same approach with other wines. I guess the idiosyncrasies of the whole thing are its beauty.

I was very happy to be offered some Gonon, the Villard Reflet, the Gaillard St Jo and the Sorrel Crozes. I did flinch again at the price of the Crozes though - it is up 23% on last year in GBP
