Weekend Beers

Tonight I'm brewing another batch of Pils so will be opening Fruh, Jever and HB. Tomorrow I have a stroll in the Peak District with a few at the Druids (Birchover) and possibly one in the Sycamore (Parwich). Always great beers on and great pubs. A few bottles lined up to follow: Boon Oude Geuze, Red Admiral from the wonderful From The Notebook (Allendale), a couple from Derby Brewery and some well worn classics (Sadler's Worcester Sorcerer, Tribute etc).

So what's hitting the glass this weekend?

Tonight: just over half a bottle of Fullers ESB (bottled about three weeks ago), a bottle of Anchor Liberty Ale, and a bottle of Sierra Nevada's Torpedo, which I haven't had for a while (bought in a 3 with 20% off offer at M&S)...

AleSmith .394 Pale Ale (6%), which I had with some pals from Chicago at an Italian restaurant tonight. Lovely Pale Ale, dry-hopped with a significant biscuit malt profile. One of the best American Pale Ales I've had in a long time.

The name ".394" refers to a baseball batting average by San Diego Padre, Tony Gwynn. Being a football (soccer) and cricket bloke, I don't really understand it, but I gather it's an excellent average. The beer certainly does him justice.

Romney Marsh Best Bitter at my local in Deal. Slightly richer than my ideal summer session ale but beautiful, clean bitter hoppiness. A delight, especially for a cold night by the sea!

My only beer of the weekend was a rather disappointing Gigantic IPA. Not bad, just not exciting in any way.

Actually, that's not quite true. A pint of Oxford Gold after a 3-1 win in a hockey match against the previously unbeaten league leaders on Saturday, which puts us in a position where we will, if we win our remaining games, win the league, was very satisfying indeed but not for the beer itself!
