Wine in Music

Disappeared down a Wikipedia rabbit hole the other day and discovered Al Stewart's Down in the Cellar:

In 2000, Stewart released Down in the Cellar, a concept album themed on wine. Stewart had begun a love affair with wine in the 1970s when, he admitted, he had more money than he knew how to spend, and so turned to fine wines.

Apparently featuring such unforgettable numbers as "Waiting for Margaux" and "The Shiraz Shuffle".

It got me thinking - if anyone could put together a vinous playlist, it would be the members of this forum. What wine-themed songs can you think of? What are your favourite vinous references in music?

Python Lee Jackson feat. Rod Stewart - In a Broken Dream:

Every day I spend my time
Drinking wine, feeling fine

Tremendous soft spot for this song, partially dampened by its use in "Breaking The Waves".

YES! The Captain. How could I forget?!

Meanwhile, I feel sure that there's at least one wine reference in the Half Man Half Biscuit oeuvre, just need to remember it.

Got it - from "Fix It So She Dreams of Me":

The wine has coiled its way around my understanding
And I’m deaf to your libertarian jeers
They should just brick Jim Beglin up with the Gok Wan acolytes
Brick him up

'Let me touch you for a while', Alison Krauss.
I'm gonna ruin my black mascara.
You're drinkin whiskey when it should be wine.
You keep a-lookin' into that mirror.
But to me you're lookin' really fine.

Have to say that even as an avowed HMHB fan, I'd forgotten that.

Don Giovanni must contain the only praise of Marzemino, which The Don drinks at the dinner before his soon.

Brick him up indeed. There's always an HMHB ref: the one I thought of was RSVP where the hoped-for-groom, actual-caterer laces not only the punch (antifreeze) but also the sparkler:

And in a gesture which said: “I’m fast fading
Could somebody dial 999?”
He valiantly toasted my capers
With a glass of what he thought was wine
It was gone half past ten before folk cottoned on
By which time I’d landed in Wick

Not really about wine, but mentions it and has the benefit of being funny. In fact, I'm chuckling now.

lots and lots of songs, here just a few:

Eric Clapton – Bottle of red wine
Third eye blind – God of wine

Sitting on a beach drinkin' rocket fuels, oh yeah!”

Do You Feel Like We Do - Peter Frampton

Come on, let's do it again”

None of them along the line know what any of it is worth.”

Stays drunk all the time
He makes Mustang Wine

Where a man gets what he merits…”

Burglar - The Damned

People say that crime don't pay

A stellar contribution, Phil!

Trying to avoid the temptation to fill this thread with Hip Hop references to Cristal and Moet.

And also to post a link to Jermaine Stewart's falsetto post-AIDS anthem, "We Don't Have To Take Our Clothes Off": (We could dance & party all night/ and drink some cherry wine)

I'm guessing we don't want to include beer (or lager and crisps), but Good Ale by the Copper Family is a wonderful folk song, and one of my favourite of all songs about alcohol.
