1996 Taittinger Comte de Champagne

  1. 1996 Taittinger Comtes de Champagne - Pale yellow with fine bubbles. On the nose, hints of buttered brioche, green apples, citrus and yellow lemon zest, and mouth watering salinity. Rich flavors , with some creamy overtones, dried fruits and citron with flowers. Drinking oh so well. Likely at peak, and perhaps it may get better still, but why risk it when it tastes so splendid now?
  2. When we held a 20 years on 1996 champgne evening the Comtes was absolutely out on its own as wine of the night.IIRC 7 out of 9 had it as WOTN.
I thought it may have been one of those freak bottles but luckily in the next few weeks I am going to once again have the chance to sample it.
Your note has fuelled the anticipation even further!
  3. I still have a six pack somewhere (and three magnums)... might just be time to crack a bottle! :)
  4. The 1996 Comtes Rose is a fine bottle too.

I wonder if M&S 10 years ago were clearing out the shelves of Comtes 1996 at half price?
