TN 2005 Craggy Range ‘Block 14’ Syrah

  1. Hummm… a bit pointless cellering this although I’m sure it hasn’t done any harm. At the same time, it hasn’t improved one jot. It has a pretty nose with some red fruited brightness, tobacco, a silky texture and even a sous bois element just a shame middle age has killed its exuberance. Certainly lacking power the ample acidity emphasises the narrow layers of the remaining fruit. Others may think this a lovely wine. Not much fun so maybe I should have decanted. Screw cap. 13%vol 86pts
     
  2. Sounds like it is an an awkward, clumsy stage, and needs to be left alone - though for how long is hard to say.
     
  3. I found the 2007 vintage quite one-dimensional at 8 years of age. I'd certainly gamble on yet greater age, but I'm not confident a swan would emerge.
