Bordeaux 2022 EP

I bought my usual haul of wines which typically includes 6 bottles each of Durantou wines up to and including Petite Eglise, 3x Canon, 3x Carmes and 6 x Leoville B plus some extras GPL, La Gaff, Beau-Sejour Becot, Croix Canon, Brane Cantenac. Way more than I was planning to spend.

12x Leoville Barton halves
1x Batailley DM
3x Montrose

I suspect I’ll do far more buying of 2022 in 3-5 years, probably even longer, given the issue with the vintage isn’t really the wines, it’s the pricing (in the vast majority of cases). Only wine I’ll look to pick up more of in the short term is the Montrose - set to be a knockout.

A single magnum of Batailley in its own OWC - only purchased due to it being my goddaughter's birth year otherwise I would have sat this one out.

Only other purchases will be if find any more single mags in OWC

I appreciate that times change and people change with them and that this forum sees little of the vinous willy-waving historically conspicuous elsewhere, but the murine response to Nick's informal poll might lead casual observers to conclude that sales of 2022 may have been less than spectacular. Three halves here and a magnum there soon makes inroads with a DRC allocation, but where are all the hundreds of thousands of cases of classed growth claret from successive vintages of the century actually going?

Collectors were deterred by the prices, knowing that they could acquire comparable vintages with a few years of bottle age for less than the 2022 release. The wide availability of the 2018, 2019 and 2020 vintages contributed to this perception. Ultimately, the buyer’s perception of value plays a vital role in maintaining the system, and this year’s pricing left many confused.
Or not confused in the slightest.
