Bordeaux 2022 EP

Anyone else waiting on a release hoping it will be a buy?
Montrose in alternative formats is my main hope. A wine by all accounts on a rich vein of form; the 19 & 20 both apparently right up there with the FGs.

Playing my “halves card” on some Leoville; Poyferre and Barton.

All because it’s my daughters birth year and the alternative formats will be trickier to find. Trouble being that a mag of Montrose will be too young for her 18th birthday - will have to be for her 30th!

Purchasing of bottles can wait a couple of years at the very least IMO.

Fieuzal came out at both 169/6 and 269/6 (J&B) yesterday in my emails. Tempted but not enough I think, will wait for in bottle confirmation they made a good 'un (although as one of J&B's few 123 year old customers I might get an OAP discount :) )
Do you know what the alcohol levels of de Fieuzal and Cantemerle are Alex? None of the promotional e-mails mentioned that.

Showing as 269/6 for the red on J&B website now which is a mistake I think. That seems more likely to be the price of the white Yesterday BBR were offering the red at 168/6 and the white at 270/6 but by today they seem to have sold out of the red.

In a reasonably good vintage, for me there are two types of wine to consider buying EP...

(i) v respectable purchases that could be used to grace offline events or special occasions in future (e.g. at level of Leoville Barton and upwards), but they need to be priced to shift and rarely are, with the exception perhaps of Canon, LCHB and Clinet - to mention a few examples from several; and

(ii) genuinely stellar under the radar wines that may not garner approving looks at such events, but will absolutely delight, and over deliver - and these need to be very attractively priced and with stellar / mega points - as otherwise better to buy in bottle, or indeed further down the line.

What do others think?

Quite an interesting article on WS for anyone interested about whether there was some acid additions to wines this year. Well worth a quick read.
Very interesting. It is a shame that no wine critic will ask these sorts of questions and simply regurgitates whatever – often nonsense – the owner or winemaker suggests. (pH levels decreasing after fermentation?!). It would be good to know as then at least we can make informed decisions.

I remain surprised that merchants make so little of making halves available. One merchant (on here) is an exception, but for most you have to ask personally how much it will cost and then request it. Those merchants that are very online-based make no effort at all (eg L&W). Given the cost of halves can vary a fair amount, surely it would help sell more if one of the key reasons for buying EP (as many here outline) were more upfront and available. I'd certainly consider it more.

It would be better than much of the fluff/guff that comes from merchants: e.g on the Bartons, "Both releases come with our warmest recommendation, and we encourage you to secure a case at your earliest convenience". Well, you would say that wouldn't you? Jeez.

For the francophones! ... Looking at wine pHs will give you a clue...
