Bordeaux EP 2023

About pricing in business or wine makers p####d off about punters making easy money on the back of their efforts?
Sorry Sean no idea what you are talking about. Can you point to a post in this thread that is about people complaining about making money on buying wine EP? I think the whole thread is about pretty much the opposite!

I googled batailley 19 and the Farr Web comes top clicking onto it brings up a page that states 47/6, hence presuming that was their price, I didn't investigate further.
Ok everyone else is using wine-searcher which generally flags up the cheapest options.

I'm really not sure about what your point is. I mean yes most people on the thread are questioning the pricing of EP this year (and for some years before). No one has (except you) has mentioned wanting to make money off buying Bordeaux EP and as people have repeatedly stated the opposite has been true for the last ten years, you generally lose money, which to my mind, and others, rather undermines the whole point of buying EP. I mean since 2004 the only vintage you could have flipped is 2008 so it hardly seems like a going concern.

A lot of merchants in France do not advertise the price of trophy wines on their website with only the mention "contactez nous" for this wine. These wines are "allocated" to good customers who buy year after year (that's how I get my (less and less bottles) Roumier at a (less and less) decent price).

Same in Germany, but looking at the prices I think those prices are set by the Bordelais and forced upon the merchants as there are only minuscule differences in the offerings. I was even told that they were forced to „streamline“ their prices. Ignoring this would result in being excluded from the next campaign. And I see this in other European markets as well. They seem to try to stear the EP campaign even more than before. Perhaps something to be checked by the right Authorities.
Cheers
Rainer

I guess what amazes me is that even at Batailley 'level', people are still buying security and confidence with the 'name' but at a price. There are swathes of Bordeaux out there which have far more complexity, flavour and 'agabilty' but the British claret buyer really does have to have that sort of confidence to spend their money off-piste. I won't even enter the 'en primeur' discussion, as that clearly is a complete disaster these days.
