This (I think erroneously titled) email from Corneys I think inadvertently captures the general mood re Bordeaux ep 2023 quite well View attachment 38464
Went for halves of this. But only after the price correction emails went around. £150 reduction per six on last year was a nice surpriseTook a punt on a single bottle of Rauzan-Ségla from L&W and remain patiently waiting for the mixed cases from the Wine Society to be released.![]()
I completely went off the estate when they went full Parker fruit bomb in style… they’ve probably towed back but there’s so much good wine around that I’m not tempted in the slightestI had earmarked Troplong Mondot as a possible, today’s release price has sunk that notion.
Given quantities a lot of this will be to do with the negoc still having availability and once you ask you get until the negoc says “all gone!” So you can always keep requesting… but a sign that once the wines are bottled you may see “releases ex Chateau” coming to market if they remain open to requests during EP.Notable that on the Farr Vintners website nothing is sold out in this campaign. Apart from Pichon Lalande the other wine that probably represents ok vfm is Les Carmes Haut Brion if you like that style. Perhaps Chateau Margaux as well if you play in the premier league.
hmmh What does it mean? what is CHB "style"?Les Carmes Haut Brion if you like that style
Just because I love the estates I have got some Figeac and La C but I also managed to pick up 2020s and older below this release price. Not by much but still sensible. 2010 and older seems to start to get into the “am I really willing to take the risk on someone else having stored them poorly territory” but still not a huge jump on the 23 release price.PLL and Conseillante in halves for me so far. I think that’s it
At least it isn't off the scale alcohol wise.It has an unusually high % of Cabernet Franc in the blend Antoine - in 2023 it was 50% - which tends to dominate the flavour profile. I am not the biggest fan of this property but it gets very well reviewed by the critics.
Really? You can pick the 2010 up for £100 more than the 2023 ib for six. Has buying from ib storage been a problem for you in the past?Just because I love the estates I have got some Figeac and La C but I also managed to pick up 2020s and older below this release price. Not specifically when I know where and how things have been stored (ie my big bear with provenance which dies hard growing up around antiques where even people who know my late mother will ask me for details of things she had) No guarantees however as IB just means it’s never been taxed in the Uk. Wines do come from cellars overseas and then sold IB here.Really? You can pick the 2010 up for £100 more than the 2023 ib for six. Has buying from ib storage been a problem for you in the past?
I'm still absolutely amazed that anyone is buying any 2023 even with a few properties releasing at significant discounts.
