Competitive Offers from Retailers

Think the last thread got lost so restarting purely to note that TWS have added a load of old stuff today (even going back to the 90s "beyond their designated drinking window"), much may not be keenly priced, indeed quite expensive, but possibly hard to source in good nick, so certainly worth a look

I bought some things for c. 60-80% of WS low, can't complain. They also have some mystery cases of wine that might be too old, but for most on this site will probably be considered at/before peak.

Unfortunately I've had a busy day at work so got to it a bit late. Ended up with a couple of bottles of 1985 port (birth year) and a mystery case of fine red. Would have been tempted by quite a lot that went out of stock quickly but que sera sera.

I got on about an hour after they listed,
went through all the items I might be interested in vs wine searcher and as
a) there was nothing in there on my 'must have' list and
b) as Nick said, it was between 60-100% of wine-searcher, I didn't buy anything
..... then decided to try a couple of the mystery cases

Quite a lot of appealing mature-ish claret and port. Picked up a few bits. Though I noticed with some regret that things like Roumier, Barthod etc which TWS until recently tended to price very keenly (even outside ep) are no longer priced keenly. There’s some Fourrier GC 2018 on there at £120. When they had the 2017 a while back it was £60.

Is the bit about wines outside the drinking window not being covered by the guarantee new?

Same thing with Bruno Clair - I bought a bottle of Beze last year for £195, but they're now priced around £600.

Someone on TWS forum recently got a couple of bottles of Roumier Morey Saint Denis 1er Cru Clos De La Bussiere from TWS showroom for £89 each so there may be the occasional bargain for those willing to travel.

My only visit turned up a 2014 Domaine Bruno Clair Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos du Fonteny for £75 which whilst not a bargain like the Roumier was a pleasing enough price.

Haha.

I do wish TWS had offered their past, keener pricing on the more desirable mature wines that went on sale while limiting them to 1 bottle per member, as so often happens anyway with their en primeur offers. It seems slightly perverse to sell 2004 Roumier Chambolle-Musigny for £450 if you’ve just offered the 2021 en primeur to members for a fraction of that price.

No box for me today…

“We are contacting you today to let you know that there has been a slight delay in dispatching these cases as there was such high demand for them.”

Yeh Nick, your's is the most compelling i've seen so far and I'm very glad I went for the whites case as well now based on yours, I also got greedy and went for 2 cases of Red so hopefully get a decent spread of regions and vintages, I'm reliably informed they have been delivered so looking forward to seeing what i've got when I get home this evening.
