Armand de Brignac rose at Fortnum and Mason down from £500 to £350.

Not that I assume anyone here would be or should be interested in drinking it though. Just in case you have to buy some friend who likes luxury bling-bling stuffs a gift, and luckily you don't have to share the drink with them.

Yes, we even tasted it in the same shop!
I still remember I randomly chatted with two young people next to me "what's your favourite wine today?" and they said "oh we like this spade Ace rose, it's great!" "Oh, really?"

I cannot confess to any regret at not succumbing to a momentary temptation to order one of these.

I did eventually succumb, although I bought the Mixed Six Dry White Bordeaux 2011 case, which arrived today: a bottle each of La Garde, G de Guiraud, Charmes-Godard (a favourite of mine), Clos Floridene, Carbonnieux and Bouscaut, all 2011, for £120, which I thought was fair. It's nice to pick up these with about the right amount of bottle age. 2011 was very good for white bordeaux and those I've previously had (including G de Guiraud, Clos Floridene and Carbonnieux) were very good.

I didn't see that-it might have tempted me though the lack of guarantee would have been offputting; white bordeaux of even the most modest kind was once the most surefire of all wines for ageing(which it needs at every level) and is now no longer at all.

Just bought a 6 pack of the Suremain Monthelie Sur la Velle 1er Cru 2015 and Chateau de Marsannay Marsannay Les Favieres 2017 at decent prices. Good Burgs to have to drink now while waiting on others to mature. Also got a 6 pack of Robertson Long Beach Pinotage 2018 for less than £20ib, which should do for the BBQ season.

I resisted. As no matter the price, there just wasn’t anything on the list that I could convince myself that I needed. And I made a big effort with the convincing, trying all sorts of tactics on myself.
I find the trick is to envisage an occasion when one would drink them and if none is forthcoming then to desist. It is though the first sale I bave seen for a considerable time from which one would even contemplate buying.

The Mi-Pente 17 at £60/6 IB is a steal
I have no doubt about that Si…as were lots of other things. But that doesn’t always equate to a sensible purchase. I’m sure there have been times when knitting needles have been sold for bargain prices, but I have no need of them…

It has though taken me a stupidly long time to form this conclusion. Many years ago I would have ‘gone long’ - and then wondered later what I was going to do with it all.

I've yet to find a knitting needle that matches up to a Jackie Blot cab franc, Jonathan, though the night is young, as they say.

It was certainly not intended as a questioning of your judgement or to try to push you to buy, more a general comment that the Mi-Pente is a brilliant wine that was being offered at a somewhat stupid though very welcome price. Like Tom, I thought it was one of the more tempting merchant offers of recent times, though it goes without saying that these are all matters of personal opinion.

Anyway, there was a Mi-Pente shaped hole in my life that has now been filled, and though I scarcely need more wine I was very glad to have avoided all urges to financial prudence or restraint on this occasion.
