I work in healthcare and last Thursday, I was at a dinner event in Del Mar to celebrate the release of a new HAE medication.
Glasses of wine were being poured all over the place, so our server was a bit shocked when I asked for a beer list!
It only featured about six beers, all but one being IPA's from Stone and other usual suspects. The "one" caught my eye: Kilt Lifter Scottish Ale from Four Peaks, out of Arizona. We had visited Four Peaks a couple of times before COVID, on Arizona trips and thought their beers to be of the highest quality. In those days they even carried a couple of cask ales.
In SoCal you hardly ever see their beers, so I immediately plumped for Kilt Lifter. What a delight! Pouring a beautiful dark-amber colour in the glass, it featured a full and creamy body with a dominant malt character.
With pronounced notes of malted barley, caramel and toffee, it finished with a lovely smooth, dry finish.
A rare treat from one of the best breweries (in my opinion) in the country.
