Good deals on Gin?

Well, if I knew anyone flying with Jet2, they had some incredible deals on the way back from Madeira, but we've drunk all of that now!
At the moment, it looks like Tesco clubcard price of £14/70cl of Gordon's regular is hard to beat. CostCo does just beat it, but it's a schlep there to save a couple of quid, and I've no particular need to visit them...
...although, actually, now I think about it.

Gordon's regular is execrable. You should be able to find Plymouth at £20 per bottle or less, and that is an excellent gin even if a bit too low in alcohol. Waitrose have Beefeater at £15.50, also very good and too weak.

BTW, this is for making damson gin, so I don’t think it needs to be special. We will ensure that we buy loads of export strength in May…

No, but it needs to be alcoholic! our continental cousins are fortunate in being able to buy alcohol specifically for making such things though it is no longer as absurdly inexpensive as it once was. It will work with 37.5% but it's on the edge in terms of preservation unless there's a lot of sugar.
When Tanqueray is on offer that is when I pile in, for infusing purposes. Lots of bullace to stick into kilner jars this year....
Tanqueray has once more reduced its alcoholic strength to coincide with the new rates of duty. More shrinkflation.

My trouble with these fun concoctions is that there never seems to be an occasion at which one actually wants to drink them. They tend to get given away to friends who then put them at the back of their cocktail cabinets and forget about them until every other possibility is exhausted. I believe they are handy if one is keen on hunting.

Yes I noticed the Tanqueray booze quotient shrinkage... I was just talking with my sister this evening about precisely when to drink these liqueurs. Certainly they age pretty well and become quite mellow after 3 years or so in bottle, assuming correct sweetening and storage. But I have a cabinet groaning with different plum varieties, before we even get to sloes. Making them is really now a habit rather than a purposeful endeavour...

Our daughters seem to love them! I occasionally indulge.
