NWR Great quotes

“The more I get to know people, the more I like dogs.”
French writer Alphonse Toussenel
We have three dogs, so go figure...
And Don has even more, just sayin'

Having left my job to set up my own business last August, I have had a few ups and downs over the last 7-8 months and the following 3 quotes have kept me going:

“Don’t stop. Don’t even think about stopping until you get there, and don’t give much thought to where “there” is. Whatever comes, just don’t stop”
(Phil Knight, founder of Nike)

“The darkest hour of the night is the one just before dawn.”
(Churchill)

“Memento audere semper / remember always to dare”
(Latin motto, adopted by the fans of SS Lazio)

"When Alexander of Macedonia was 33, he cried salt tears because there were no more worlds to conquer. Bristow's only 27!"

- The peerless Sid Waddell commentating on Eric Bristow's record extending fifth World Darts Championship.
That reminded me of Will Self's utterance - "why is the Mr. Universe competition always won by someone from Earth?"

Playing cricket is not pressure. Pressure is a Messerschmitt up your arse - Keith Miller

As Freud said to Jung in Vienna, you can psych up too much for a darts match - Sid Waddell

The atmosphere is so tense, if Elvis walked in with a portion of chips, you could hear the vinegar sizzle on them - Sid again

The slow-motion replay doesn't show how fast the ball was really travelling - Richie Benaud

Do or do not. There is no try. Yoda
It was pre-Yoda days, but I'd hate it when working to a deadline, and colleagues used to say "I'll try" - when what I wanted to hear was "Leave it with me. I'll get it done one way or another" or "I'm too busy with higher priority work. Could you give the task to someone else?"

I think of that every time I see or hear the Yoda quotation.
