House Chardonnay Recommendations

Just picked up a bottle of Robert Oakley Signature Chardonnay in the Co-op which I will try this week.

What Chardonnay would people recommend for around £15 for everyday drinking? I’m not looking for recommendations over £20 - I have some of those.

Ideally buttery but without aggressive oak.

Thanks in advance.

Rustenberg is decent value in that price range.

Just bought some of the TWS Aussie Chardonnay at £7 to see how that fares (Yalumba).

Working through a case of 2018 Olivier Leflaive Les Setilles BB that was purchased from TWS for £17 and drinking very well now .. but alas not £17 any more…

Vasse Felix “Filius” Chardonnay also fits the bill (just).

*Edit - the Vasse is available for £11.99 when you buy six at an easily googleable merchant.

Pulenta Estate is good, and has some oak.

Wolf Blass Gold Label from Adelaide Hills is a bit leaner/flintier.

Wente Morning Fog is more oaky/buttery.

Mission Estate (NZ) from TWS.

If you can stretch closer to £20, Mac Forbes (Yarra Valley) is v good, also from TWS.

Talmard Macon fulfils that role for me - I like it being unoaked. The basic Macon Villages is great value but I go for the Macon Uchizy usually.
If you want some oak then the Wine Society Exhibition ones (M River, Hawkes Bay, & esp Tasmania - but just over you £15 limit) are pretty reliable.

If Mallory and Benjamin Talmard, then the Macon Villages and Macon Uchizy are the same wine. I would second that
Domaine Mallory et Benjamin Talmard, Mâcon-Villages 2022
or suggest
Domaine Gonon, Mâcon La Roche Vineuse 2022

I declare an interest as I buy these wines. Please delete this if considered against the rules.

Thanks everyone there are a few suggestions here that I will try.

My dream Chardonnay is a modestly priced New World example that tastes like a top Meursault. I’ve only encountered this, many years ago, with early bottlings from 1991 and 1992 of Dieu Donne from South Africa which were stupendously good, comparable to a top wine from Lafon. It won loads of prizes at the time and, I believe, was subsequently sold. Later vintages from the mid 90s didn’t impress me as much as those two vintages so I stopped buying it.

I remember that Dieu Donne, Kevin. It cost about a fiver IIRC.

I didn’t run to Lafon’s Charmes in those days, but I did buy a case of Clos de La Barre ‘89 from Morris & Verdin on Jasper’s advice, which provided much pleasure - apart from the couple of oxidised bottles...
