House Chardonnay Recommendations

I was at the last of our wine-price tasting events last night which had Aussie Chardonnay as the theme for whites and was surprised to find that many people (including Lauren) preferred the cheapest wine (Aldi Kooliburra Chardonnay - at £4.15) to the most expensive (Shaw & Smith M3, at about £35). It wasn't just that they disliked the M3, but there seemed to be genuine affection for the Kooliburra. That's what she's getting from now on! ;-)

Sadly(?) I preferred the M3, although it took some time to open out. I wondered if it was that people had leapt to judgment too early, but even when I offered L a taste later on, she wasn't swayed.

We undertook some research last night requiring an unprecedented level of financial investment but hey ho you only live once.

TWS Aussie Chardonnay. (~£7). Tasted like a budget Chardonnay tbh which obviously is exactly what it is. Very peachy. A little astringent, spikey. It was ok and good value but felt life is too short.

Vasse Felix Filius Chardonnay 2022 (£12). Really lovely. Elegant compared to the TWS. Melon and apples. Nice salinity. This disappeared way too quickly. Cracking value.
